1923
1923 - The beginning
Otto and Willy Gruber found a joint company. First, the brothers trade in screws and small metal parts under the name “Otto Gruber & Co.”, soon they also sell compressors and lift platforms.
1928
1928 - The term "Stahlgruber"
Stahlgruber evolves into a trade supplier of automobile accessories, tools and workshop equipment.
1935
1935 - A real market niche
The Gruber brothers discover a real market niche when visiting a vulcanizing operation for old tyres.
1937
1937 - Tyre patches
The Gruber brothers start producing e.g. inner tube patches, inner sleeves and tyre patches.
1938
1938 - The name
During a product trial in 1938 Willy Gruber said: "These things really are tip top." – and created the idea and brand which later conquered the market.
1944
1944 - Increase in demand
Set up of a production plant for tube patches in Fürstenzell in Bavaria.
1949
1949 - Record level
The millionth inner tube patch is manufactured.
1950
1950 - First agencies abroad
First agencies abroad (Italy, Japan). The portfolio (car parts, accessories, tools and workshop equipment) is extended continuously.
1954
1954 - Poing
Opening of the factory in Poing.
1960
1960 - Expansion
Opening of the factory in Desdorf, near Cologne.
1965
1965 - Wear protection
Birth of business division Material Processing: development of wear protection material for conveying systems.
1969
1969 - New headquarters
Company’s ownership transitions to selected employees.
1990
1990 - New processing plants
Expansion is rapid in the new eastern German states. The processing plants Borna, Schwarze Pumpe, Neuruppin and Wittenberg are set up.
1992
1992 - Acquisition Gummiwerk Elbe GmbH
Introduction of the Surface Protection division by acquiring Gummiwerk Elbe GmbH (today TIP TOP Oberflächenschutz Elbe GmbH).
2002
2002 - From Munich to Poing
Headquarter relocation from Munich to Poing.
2006
2006 - Foundation of the GmbH
Founding of REMA TIP TOP GmbH.

2009 - South Africa
Acquisition of Dunlop belting products South Africa extends portfolio with conveyor belts.
2010
2010 - Alfa Development
Consolidation of development departments into the separate entity alfa Development GmbH.

REMA TIP TOP Latin America SPA is founded.

Acquisition of TECMA, KTR, and SKO.
